Winter Sonnet
White silk dresses with blue satin sashes
Little mittens that warm my cold fingers
Silver snowflakes freeze on my eyelashes
Main Street is filled with laughter and singers
Candles spout the warming fragrance of pine
While couples kiss under quaint mistletoe
Parents shopping for presents wait in line
Tots lick candy canes with faces a glow
Houses trimmed in garlands and lit with lights
Little cottages made of gingerbread
Bright-eyed children can't wait for Christmas night
Poinsettias shine in the cold, they shine red
A child born under a shimmering star
My father tells us while he smokes cigars

I wanted to capture what I thought a picturesque Winter day would look like.
