To the Teenage You
Your clothes are frumpy and your hair undone,
But through your eyes your brilliance dazzling shine;
And from your dove-like heart, all foul you shun;
Oh, how I wish to make your sweet smile mine!
Your cool demeanor like an autumn breeze,
Refreshing harbor from chaotic hub;
Though hard to find, once found I feel at ease
Not blown about but soothèd like a cub.
Your soft external shell is but to shroud
A sharp-edged steel that dances in cold light,
For scarlet blood you’ll draw until they bowed;
And of your crown, you’ll never lose its sight.
These words have failed to capture all you are,
Just let me stay with you and we’ll go far.
