A Clown's Smile
Day after day, you know I'm smiling all the time,
But I get home and I don't want to lift a damn thing.
Everything I loved was lost long ago,
I'm just trying to hold onto what's left of me.
Under this makeup you may never know,
Clown's tears are invisible with that smile on.
I can't seem to snap out of it but I can never talk about it.
You see, I've been backed in a corner my whole life,
You can't trust anyone with these eyes.
There's always someone pulling your hair,
Stealing your laughs,
Lurking to take down the laughing clown.
These laughs are fake, this smile wears away,
The clown's smile is just a show,
An act of magic, pulling it out of a hat.
One day maybe you'll understand,
But right now all you'll ever see is a smile
Never the tears falling of this clown's face.
I've spilt over so many times,
You know what I learned?
They all leave in the end and it's not worth the trouble.
Hold it in, you have to hold it in otherwise they'll just leave again.
Love is so hard to grip when it's so slippery,
So hard to see while it's so foggy,
So hard to understand when it's another language.
These laughs are fake, this smile wears away,
The clown's smile is just a show,
An act of magic, pulling it out of a hat.
One day maybe you'll understand,
But right now all you'll ever see is a smile
Never the tears falling of this clown's face.
So this is my magic trick, you can see me but never see me.
You may know but never know me at all,
You can hear me but will you ever hear me at all?
Behind this mask, I'll hide and you'll see a laugh
But it's just another pathetic pass to keep you walking.
Laugh at the clown, he's so funny,
Laugh and laugh and laugh away...
