she tries
She tries.
It’s forgetting how to read
The words blur into a mess
Teardrops make the ink run
The author cannot confess
She’s slowly going blind
She tries not to think
The words don’t have a meaning
Yet they all manage to link
CHORUS
She tries to see a picture
To create one in her mind
But she can’t forget her own
The story she wants to leave behind
She tries to imagine a world
One that’s not her own
Because she can’t forget
She starts to feel alone
The chapter names lie
They are all far too brief
She tries to understand
She needs to find relief
The wording is all wrong
Nothing seems to make sense
She doesn’t know how to feel
Each emotion is too immense
CHORUS
The characters are all bizarre
They’ve lost their natural instinct
They’re all going insane
Her heart begins to sink
The setting turns to night
The rain begins to warm
She wants to know what happens
But the page is badly torn
CHORUS
The ending chapter is waiting
It sits untouched by her eyes
She stares and strains, unable to see
No matter how hard she tries
She puts the book away
Gives up on this madness
She wishes it could be this easy
To forget the story of her own sadness
She can’t ever remember
Because there’s so much she can’t forget
Her story remains unread
And that’s how it will be left
