A Prayer

I stepped in to the sunlight
on a warm summer's day
but then all the sun
and all the light
were quickly whisked away

My whole world was dark
and all felt lost
never with an end to night;
Joy had ended and doom took over
and all I could feel was fright

So I sobbed and cried
and begged the skies
and knelt on my knees and prayed:

Mother Mary, hold me tight;
rock me till I sleep.
Tuck me in and brush my hair;
wipe my tears when I weep:

Mother Mary, ask Him to show me
my road paved with gold;
engraved with His and your love
from ages of old...

The hole I was in
had a lid on top,
and no matter how I plead
no one stopped

I held on to a string of hope
that wasn't in the air
I tried to find a way out
that wasn't really there

So I cried for help
and tied that string
and knelt on my knees and prayed:

Mother Mary, hold me tight;
rock me till I sleep.
Tuck me in and brush my hair;
wipe my tears when I weep:

Mother Mary, ask Him to show me
my road paved with gold;
engraved with His and your love
from ages of old.
