The False Glass Eye
He looked upon the faceless eye,
And as the marble faced the sky,
Walked a man with lying guise
She cried in a corner by her bed
And held a memory of when they’d wed,
But soon returned the Man of dread
He’s not unfaithful, He’s not unkind,
He simply acts like he’s despised
And thus her love he has denied
He stumbles home – drunk – weak and weary,
And falls asleep meek and dreary,
She kills the false glass eye, and he looks on forth with gaze of bleary

I struggled with dyslexia all through 1st to 6th grade, and I couldn't even spell my own name! However, although I couldn't read or write well, I've always had a 'knack' for storytelling and creativity. After years of working through my dyslexia, I've become a passionate writer, dabbling in everything from short stories, flash fiction, novels, play scripts and my favorite, poetry. To me, writing is truly just another medium where I can express myself. This piece is about a 'false glass eye', which I think of as the symbol for a false type of person. The poem is brief but tells a story about a suffering marriage/relationship, in which a man with the 'false glass eye' neglects his wife as she suffers in silence. The poor wife eventually snaps and 'destroys his glass eye', therefore destroying their lie of a relationship. While this is purely fiction, I hope the message about difficulty of certain relationships can resonate with readers, regardless of the type of relationship it may be.
