Years From Now
Baby you talk too much, just listen
Don’t let your mind become a prison
That follows you through time
Baby you’ve lied enough, to yourself
So don’t you lie to me when you tell
Me that you’re on our side
You look at us, and you only see yourself
No wonder you’re so lonely
Well if you must, please mess with someone else
Go write a different a story
My only hope is that years from now!!
We won’t be buried in regrets!!
And maybe I wasn’t working out!!
For you but I’m still a true friend!!
What would you rather have?!!
What would you rather have?!!
My only hope is that years from now!!
We won’t be buried in regrets!!
Baby I’ve heard enough, be silent
Please don’t pretend we’re on an island
And it’s just you and I
Baby it’s all too much, to handle
Don’t start a fire lighting candles
And don’t force me to cry
You look at us, and you only see yourself
No wonder you’re so lonely
Well if you must, please mess with someone else
Go write a different a story
My only hope is that years from now!!
We won’t be buried in regrets!!
And maybe I wasn’t working out!!
For you but I’m still a true friend!!
What would you rather have?!!
What would you rather have?!!
My only hope is that years from now!!
We won’t be buried in regrets!!
And I know that’s it’s over, and the damage is done
Yeah I know that’s it’s over, and you’ve already won
But is love a zero sum game?
And do we even have to play?
My only hope is that years from now…
We won’t be buried in regrets…
And maybe I wasn’t working out…
But I’m still a true friend!!
What would you rather have?!!
What would you rather have?!!
My only hope is that years from now!!
We won’t be buried in regrets!!
My only hope is that years from now!!
We won’t be buried in regrets!!
My only hope is that years from now!!
We won’t be buried in regrets!!

This piece represents how someone might feel after a breakup. Throughout the song the narrator goes through phases (blaming the other person in the verses, anger/bitterness in the prechorus, and some degree of reconciliation and sentimentality in the chorus). By the end the narrator realizes that love isn't a zero sum game and that a breakup isn't the end of the world. What really matters is that you have true friends.
