The Mighty King of the Forest
There was once a mighty king from the forest
With branches so high and roots so porous
He watched over the meadows and past the vales
As he guarded every stream, path, and trail
He tamed the rapids and anchored the canyons,
While his bountiful fruits conquered the famines
His roots gifted plants with his surplus of water
His trunk gave shade to all who wander
His movements are subtle and yet quiver with might
He protects all, even in the darkness of night
He may be noble, he may be kind,
But does our king have a dark side?
There was once a mighty king from the forest
With leaves so dull and bark so torrid
With a figure so grim and an eerie glare
He spooked every deer, mouse, and bear
Plants ablaze, trees burning
Danger loomed, chaos yearning
He brewed the storm and concocted the lightning
While his army looked so dauntingly frightening
Every trunk was aflame one by one,
branches and leaves were scorched and undone
He may be restless, he may be scary
But wasn’t our mighty king once merry?
There was once a mighty king from the forest
who was never cared for and never nourished
The king was once merry, he guarded his kingdom
Yet grew thick with decay, and his realm lacked wisdom
The king faced regret, and his heart filled with anguish
He had no reason, he had no language
There once was a mighty king from the forest
At once noble, and yet horrid

I always thought of trees as the silent kings of the forest. The issues in our world involving deforestation and forest fires inspired this piece. With all the problems involving places such as the Amazon, I brought a fantastical perspective to a real-world issue. This different perspective makes the reader ponder about the ideas behind the personified trees.
