Dear Mother
Don’t tell me how to live.
But, show me how to cook that again.
The preheat temperature:
was it 200 or 240 degrees?
Don’t tell me how to live.
But, explain to me how to ride a bike without falling;
to my surprise, it’s much harder than it looks:
sometimes my pants get caught in the gears.
Don’t tell me how to live.
But, how do you solve this equation?
I always mess up right about here.
I’ve tried every formula for success known to myself.
Don’t tell me how to live.
But, help me pronounce the word ‘love’
right now, it sounds like something else.
Don’t tell me how to live.
Instead, tell me how to operate this stove.
I always end up accidently burning myself.
Don’t you dare tell me how to live.
Don’t you even think about it.
But, if you wouldn’t mind explaining to me
how to,
you know,
stay alive?
