Fly Away
I was kept inside this cage, because he had broken my wings. He told me lies about fragile birds, like me, that were never meant to fly. He watched me through the window of this small room, that confined me, so I could not escape, and as my spirit was slipping away so was my hope that one day I would be free. But when I got free of his grasp on me I told myself that beautiful creatures cannot be confined. My wings will heal, I’ll find the sky, and fly away.
