The chest cavity is the second largest hollow space of the body
And coincidentally contains all of the friendships that you never had
You can try to drown your liver in alcohol
Or you can smoke and sip and sniff
Until your nasal cavity teems with drug addiction
But your body will never fill the emotional void in between

I have consumed toxic chemicals before
They had a name and a face and a personality
The high felt so good I didn’t see
The gasoline being poured down my throat
Dripping down past my diaphragm
Into the pit of my stomach

The surgeon general never told me
That stuff builds up in the lining of your small intestine
And when lit, bursts into flames
It will eat you from the inside out
But your eyes will still be green
You will still be a monster

Your chest cavity will still be empty
