Selena Quintanilla
Taken by a friend she had trusted
Her life gone before it had even started
A Latin inspiration creating a new form of talent on its own
Dominating the music industry with her wondrous voice
Died when she was 23
Shot in room 150
The bullet not just striking a queen but her kingdom
Killed by a woman full of greed
Como Una flor Selena's legacy was planted like a seed
Her last concert went platinum at the Houston Astrodome
Her first concert was just at home
With her siblings and their band Los Dinos
A band that was the start of her career
As a means to put food on their table at times of distress
Soon the Tejano singer had catapulted in the music industry
A Grammy winner
An inspiration to Hispanic woman
Though Selena also made a career of fashion design
Where Yolanda was the manager
A friend she’d called Selena
But a shot in the back she gave her
March 31st a day we lost a star
No longer would she continue to bring two cultures together
A Mexican and Texan
Left behind would be a family
A husband
And her fans that continue to keep her music alive
She might have died in that hotel
But her legacy will forever be breathing
What her killer thought was the end of Selena had only been her beginning
