Hold My Hand
In the corner of my memory
There’s a hazy figure
In the corner of my gaze
It holds my hand tight
I remember it clearly
Always following in my wake
That hazy figure
I was entranced by it
I tried to follow the shadow
But found it impossible to do so
I didn’t realize back then
What I know now
I remember as a child
When I ran carefree and bubbly
Your figure would follow my giggles
Watching over me as I played
I didn’t realize then
Just how important you were to me
You were always there
Holding on tight to my hand
Even when I didn’t notice
When I didn’t need your guidance
Yet you stuck by me
Quiet and protective
Standing to my side
Your hand forever in mine
I remember it back then
When I forgot about your presence
I was young when they told me
It was so easy for me to forget
But you stood by me
Without any hesitation
You watched me forget you in silence
Yet you never let go
I remember growing into my teens
Remembering your name
Remember your lasting presence
Remembering the tears they cried for you
Your memory burns into my mind
All the times you stood by
Though I wanted to fall away
To the darkness drawing me in
The darkness that held your innocence
You held my hand through it all
Dragging me from my despair
I tried to push you away
To remind myself that you added to my pain
But you only held on tighter
And said nothing all the while
Because I never envisioned your voice
Don’t let go of my hand
Because I won’t ever let go of yours
You stood in my shadows
From my birth until my death
You’ll hold my hand through it all
In the corner of my memory
There’s a hazy figure
In the corner of my gaze
You hold my hand, Brother.

For my brother, who never truly got to view the beauty of the world, but stood by my side through everything.
