To Write
To write is to release the stories I have inside
The stories that make my eyes light up
And my heartbeat quicken
To write is to share my soul with the paper, the pencil, and whomever else I choose
To write is to be whatever I wish I was
To feel my skin tingle as I soar into the sky
Borne on wings, white and feathered
Or to shiver in the cold
As I am captured by enemies
A helpless victim
Or to feel powerful and capable
A skilled enemy
To all who challenge me
To write is to see beyond the reality
And to make imagination feel real
To write is to have a power beyond myth
To provoke a thought, a feeling, in the reader
To make a stomach churn with dread
To make a heart leap in excitement
To make a soul settle in contentment
To be able write
Is to have a gift beyond all others
My own imagination is my most precious talent. Any situation becomes effortlessly easy to cope with when you can simply slip into another world, an alternate reality in which you can be or do whatever you choose.
And writing? The perfect way to share your escape route with anyone else who might need to use it in their future.
