The Perfect Student
They announced it on Monday,
In our school's overcrowded dehumanizing hall,
That a girl I had English with,
Wasn't coming back at all,
You could hear the murmurings of questions,
She had a perfect life didn't she?
What demons could she possibly be fighting.
I sat in English that Monday,
Beside her now abbandoned seat ,
While our teacher warned us to not fail,
Our upcoming quiz,
I remember she once told me,
That she was jealous of me,
My parents were aware of the amount of effort it took,
Just to get a simple 'B',
I wish I'd noticed earlier,
Or was decent enough to ask,
Because her world must have been crashing around her,
Behind the mask of a 'perfect student',
And I wonder what her last thought was on Sunday,
Was it that the only A+ she could give,
Was the blood type in her veins.
