Her Trust in Me
She trusts me enough to drop her among still waves
To allow her tiny body to float without any aid
To catch her as she flings into water double her height
She trusts me to teach her life lessons
That she shouldn’t be scared of what life throws her way
That she can do anything she sets her mind to
She trusts me to keep our promise
A promise in which I come to her aid every time
A promise in which I bring her through the ups and downs of life
She trusts me to stand by my promise
To see her through the times of uncontrollable tears
To watch her grow bigger and bigger each and every day
She trusts me not to break that promise
That I’ll fight to see her grow into a beautiful young woman
That I’ll go against the norms for her
She trusts me to make her promise a reality
A reality in which I bring her forward through her life
A reality in which each new day is filled with light as bright as she
She trusts me enough to voice this promise to others
To her mother who laughs and smiles like it’s a childish joke
To the lifeguard on deck who encourages her smile like Christmas morning
She trusts me enough to remind me each and every day
A reminder that I’m the reason for her smile
A reminder that my promise is worth more than the world to her
