A Dose of Your Own Drug
Phase One
It’s sweet
Like a Hershey’s chocolate bar
The strong smell that others hate
You find amazing
The taste that makes others gag
You can’t get enough of it
It’s addicting
Phase Two
You recognize your addiction
But you don’t care
They try to send you to rehab
But you don’t want to
This is your life now
Phase Three
It starts to burn
It hurts to breathe
But you enjoy the pain
It’s only temporary happiness
Phase Four
It’s killing you
And you know it
Everyone knows it
You realize you don’t want to die
You can feel your lungs collapsing
Now you see that rehab is your only way out
Phase Five
Recovery
You’re slowly getting better
It’s easier to breathe now that you have let it go
The smell now makes you sick
And the taste makes you gag
You wish you had listened to everyone sooner
Final Phase
The light bulb clicked
He was dealing you these drugs
That constant pain in your chest
Was caused by him
You now realize everyone has been telling you this
Now that you are on the outside you can see it
The big picture everyone spoke of
Is now painted clearly
The drug was your love
Your love was your happiness
But it snapped your heart in half
All it did was destroy you
Then you realize
This is how he felt
When you broke his heart
He has been giving you the drug you gave him
This was his revenge
And he did a damn good job at it
