To Achieve
Our parents push us,
To achieve,
To succeed,
To perceive.
They tell us,
Never give up,
Never give in,
Never stop believing.
When you stop
When you think
When it comes down to it,
How?
College is eating what we have,
Leaving us broke
Bankrupt
Bent.
You witness and you hear,
Drop outs,
Drug outs,
Lights out.
All because of,
Pressure
Bills
Loans.
We want kids
To achieve,
To succeed,
To perceive.
Where is the money coming from,
To prosper,
To accomplish,
To identify.
Society strives,
For the green paper.
But no one,
Fights for the matter.

I am a senior in high school this year. I had to write this poem for an assignment in class about a topic people protest. I feel strongly that colleges charge way too much money for students who are just trying to further their education. You should not have to become broke and in dept to obtain a higher understanding of what you love and hope to perceive.
