Living in the shorter’s shadow
Open doors, shut
Windows, cracked
Curtains , draped
The standards are set
And exceeding is my goal
I peek into the world before me
And i see light that was hidden
The golden rays of pride and glory
That were snatched from my fingertips
In the center i see the shorter
Soaking up the light that shone
He stumbles and falls
But with each step he takes
The light glows in pride
He has been handed victory Sitting on a gold plate
He snatches it
And the pungent scent of greed fills the air
I feel a familiar sense sting my eyes
As I rub at the marks my price tag has left
Once again the light has drifted
The darkness now consumes my thoughts
Locked in this tower
The doors are shut
The windows are cracked
And the curtains are draped
I have now accepted that to the world
I am the taller
Trapped under the shorter’s shadow.

I wrote this piece from personal experience with my brother. It is meant to seem as though the "taller" being the older or the one with more achievements, is being neglected even though they deserve praise. And the "shorter" is younger or the one who has done less and is praised for just being there. I really hope that made sense. All feedback is appreciated.
