We'll Meet Again
I thought of you today just like yesterday
your lovely brown hair
your amazing smile
the way you used to dance like there was nothing wrong with the world
the way you would wave to me and say I looked just like her
and the memories you retold to me when you saw something that reminded you of your past
your fierce battles with death
when you took up a sword and shield against the dark force that came to take you away
but you never let it
just like you never let it when he took you away
and I remember when I saw you the last time
even with the frail condition you were in, I could see it
the light in your eyes that appeared in times during story time
in the light of your old days
and how you reminded me of the time you fought the black knight the first time
but when you told it that time it was different
the way you said it that day....
it was like you thought it was the last time you would tell it
like you wanted me to remember how you vanquished all those creatures
because one day I would fight those same foes and I'd remember what you told me that day
but I had to leave
and when I turned back around you weren't there anymore
I fought with the dark knight for the first time that night
tooth and nail, we fought until dawn came up
and waited until the next day to resume
it was a bloody battle that lost us many soldiers
including you
and I screamed, oh, I screamed
I screamed and begged him to give you back to me
I bargained
I fought
I cried
but nothing would help
death had been gnawing at you for quite some time
and this time, it devoured you
But I won't let death take me so easily
when I clash with him in my dreams
I make sure I give him hell
because I know you'd do the same
don't think about yesterday, you'd say
think about tomorrow
and so I do
I keep my head held high
and think of tomorrow
because I know that one day
we'll meet again
