I grew up on the sound of numbers
My brother speaking gibberish
Confusion dwelled, but I associated it with
His job
27-403
He assured me he was listening
So over the chaos of
Whizzing cars and honking horns
Yelling people and loud women
Asking where they could drop a package
Over the slang of
Cool dudes begging for a ride on the truck
I talked to my brother
738-64
Sometimes I just listened to the
Sound of UPS working
Sometimes I was so tired after school
I fell asleep, leaving him on the phone
And he got me back on weekends
Sometimes I wanted silence and
Frustration reigned when he
Told me to hold on
"Yes ma-am, is your name...?"
Subtle annoyance when someone
Was in his truck
"My little sister said 'hi'"
Became the norm
And I accepted the noise and
The chaos
126-24
It's comforting
The sounds of my childhood as I
Got older
My brother honking his horn
In the tune of "Do You Wanna Build A Snowman?"
126-24
I love you
