City of Walls MAG
Somewhere across this wall
A piano plays on and on.
Its notes are the tears
on the face of eternity.
Its harmonies take breath:
I now breathe in dreams.
I’m suffocating.
All the dust and stars of the cosmos
Lay right on the other side of this wall.
But I’m still trapped in this whitewashed world,
Where the only choices
Are between black and gray.
The bricks of the city just don’t erode.
The chains of the past have yet to see rust.
But when night falls, we open our windows
And squint at the silver moon in silence,
Thousands of us.
