When My Nephew Came
It's a boy
Just a text, but I felt his presence
My nephew had just entered the world
Hours later, I stood above the glass bassinet
Staring in
I felt my heart expanding, making room
Welcoming the little creature who would call me...
"Auntie"
His little hand, like a doll's, curled small
His eyes were closed and he was just so
Tiny
I massaged his little head tenderly, as
His soft spots were still very soft
Little tendrils of dark hair framed his face
It was an exquisite picture
This perfect, beautiful child
Courtesy of my brother and his wife
Then, it happened
His eyes opened
And they were so big and dark
Staring at me
Accusing me of disturbing his sleep
I grinned and everything around me was changed
The world is different... you're here
