In Their Shoes
We stare at our screens
The horrid news is illuminated
We mumble our prayers and sorrys
We say it could never happen to us
But it did to these unsuspecting people
It could happen to us too
What if it did happen to us
Would we be brave
Would we cry
Would we survive
Through our tears would we mumble our goodbyes
Our ‘I love yous’
Through the fear would we have hope
Would we stare at the faces of our killers and still be brave
Would we have the strength to keep living
When it is over
Would we still be breathing
Would our hearts still beat
Or would we lay in the cold ground
Gone, but never forgotten
