Lily's Walk
Her eyes
Like my favorite park after in the rain
Her lips
Open like a cloudy sky
Her hair
Matted and teased to no end
She walks down the street
Wiping her eyes and taking a drag
The streak lines of her ankles
All the way up to her thighs
Commanded the attention
Of anyone with a pulse
The ground before her falters
The cold air brushes her skin like small knives
Teasing at the cuts
She hugs herself
Like she always does
And walks straight
And she remembers
Crying on the floor
Being alone
Being empty
Not being whole
And the cliche thoughts that boys and alcohol
And blacked out nights
And bleeding wrists
And putting her lips around a pipe
Would somehow fill her up
And she laughs
And thinks
That it's crazy how time changes things
But even crazier the things it doesnt change at all
When she was little she'd play with lip stick
And makeup
And now its what stains her lips
And streams down her face
Because none of these boys think she's beautful
None of them told her she's a princess
Like Daddy did
So she keeps walking
Blowing clouds into her face
Holding her head high
because she's got nothing else
