The Day You Ran
We were inseparable,
Up in the swing set,
Down in the sandbox,
Hiding in our secret spot,
We had each other.
We could sit for hours,
Staring into the abyss,
Listening to our harmonic breathing,
Unsaid thoughts were spoken,
Spoken between silence,
We had each other.
We were inseparable,
But you drifted,
Slowly enthralled with poison,
Your veins boiling,
You couldn't escape your fate,
You were destined to die.
I didn't get to say goodbye,
You were gone,
You had been gone,
You weren't yourself,
No energetic pulses,
Just depressed faces,
If I only knew what battle you were fighting,
But I wonder would that change anything.
Somewhere I know the answer is not what I would hope,
I loved you before you were cursed,
I still love you,
But you ran to the rainbow bridge.
Maybe we'll meet again,
Once I cross that bridge,
I'll search for you,
And we can run together,
Happy ever after.

My dog Maggie who I grew up with since I was two years old, recently passed away from cancer that was very sudden. I never got to say goodbye but I showed her how much I loved her each day we grew up. I knew she didn't need me to tell her 'I love you' she already knew it. I hope people get that it's okay if you don't say bye to a loved one before they die, as long as you showed them your affection daily and even if you didn't, the loved one knows that they were loved. That's all that's important. Also I recieved a poem called the rainbow bridge which is where the rainbow bridge line stems from.
