Ode to Snow
Glistening, shining as it falls.
Filling us with warm feelings of the holidays.
Though, it’s anything but warm.
Numbing as painkillers.
Cruel and chilling as a brainfreeze.
Muddy and grotesque as a rabid wolf.
Filling me with dread
of dreary scenes to come.
I push away the cold
with three sweaters and six jackets.
It frosts over the plants,
killing every living thing in sight.
Leaving only us humans
to suffer through the chill.
When finally Spring comes
and the snow melts into mud,
I’ll let go of the deep breath
I’ve been holding since November.
