The Cycle of Our Hearts
To give someone the world with only love expected in return
To have bright eyes and big hearts and open arms
To fall for stupid things like magic, love, and fate
Happiness and trust
Wanting to buy someone flowers or chocolate
Giving them the world
Looking at the future with hope because we might have them
Because false love is the only familiar thing to us
And if we felt a tiny little sliver of real
The world would be in our hands
Yet the thing about love is we wouldn’t keep it there
We’d give it away
We wish for strangers
Not because we want them
Because we thirst for what we could have
So we lose ourselves
Convincing our hearts we can’t be alone
But as soon as we aren’t alone anymore
We forget our pasts
Like faded words in a book, or lines you can’t quite see anymore on a map
We feel like we are walking around with heads half full
And hearts too heavy to carry alone
Things are so much clearer
But nothing makes sense
Because the only thing in my head is those eyes
That look like blue-green ocean water
And its getting really hard not to drown
But eventually it won’t be hard
I won't be drowning at all
Because there won’t be eyes to get lost in
But when I do get lost, your hand won't be the one there to save me
The false hope you gave me will fade, the lost purpose that was never truly there
Feeling unwanted, unloved
Alone
No matter how much I long for the past
It’s still not the present
And the hope for tomorrow is slim
And I wish I could just open up and spill my mind
Like we used to
But the silence is sacred and can not be broken
It’s something that keeps the balance
An act put on by a man in the sky or unseen forces
It’s hard to think that this is the way things are
No more midnight drives, sweaty palms, or looks that last too long
And I don’t want to have bright eyes or an open heart anymore
But I’m scared one day I will and you won't be the person falling into them
