Thank You Note
Thank you to my hair,
for not falling out every time I dyed it
in an emotional wave of despair.
Thank you to my eyes,
for being so large and round,
that the kids in middle school called me
“Tree Frog,” and the tears that
made me stronger.
Thank you to my teeth,
for always enduring the metal
latched onto them.
Thank you to my chest,
for being the size it should be.
I’m sorry I couldn’t see that
in middle school.
Thank you to my stomach,
for putting on that weight
freshman year.
And making me realize
that being underweight wasn’t “cute.”
Thank you to my hips,
for getting wider
as my age got higher.
And sending a message to my brain,
saying that no matter what
You will always be beautiful.
Thank you to my knees,
for holding most of the scars
that crawl down my legs.
You give me character.
Thank you to my body,
you are so beautiful.
I’m sorry it took me so long
to see that.
