People
There are so many of us in the world
We never all have a chance to crash into all of each other
There are some we will just never know
But isn't it funny how we are all alike?
In some small way, we all are
We all get in cars to drive to the supermarket
Or we walk
But we all go to the supermarket
Even if the supermarket is your neighbor's backyard
We all wash dishes, whether I use Dawn
And you use Palmolive, come on
You know you wash dishes, too
We all start off as babies and then grow up
We all have teethed and learned how to go potty
We all need food to survive
We all sleep
And we all end up with bags or dark circles
When we don't, unless you're just exempt
From that rule of humans aren't nocturnal
I think of all I don't know in the world
I see you through a window and I don't know you
But I do know something about you
You're human
(If you're related to ET, kindly keep that information to yourself)
You have a heart and you bleed blood
Maybe you have two kidneys or just one, but we are all alike
We all meet a guy or a girl and think
That person is everything and everything
Only to be greatly disappointed when they
Turn out to be just another thing
I don't know you, but I've felt your pain
And, you know, there really aren't that many
Differences between us
We learn more about each other just by being ourselves
And so I hope you know, somewhere, wherever you are
There is someone like you, sitting down to
Write on a piece of paper
Or papyrus
Or a leaf
