sleepless tattoos
crescent moons brand my thighs
indentations proving i am
prisoner to my mind
reminders of nights of insomnia
laying awake
thinking
far too much thinking
finding escapes from the emotional pain
digging my nails into the blank canvas
pale with the greenish blue of veins
becomes splashed with red blotches
engraving a story
that would make even the strongest break
and when morning comes
and the sun rises
bringing a new day
the marks haven't faded
and neither have the thoughts.
and when morning comes
