Daddy
Just a little baby, couldn’t even walk
But in some strange way I learned to talk
And one random day I said daddy
Only 6 years old, gaining bruise after bruise
Wishing I could just make one simple cruise
Down the street, not far
Maybe just to the mailbox
And with each try the ground meets my face
I never knew dirt had such a distinctive taste
I was a disgrace
But every time I looked up, I saw him
There to lift me up and say try again
Until finally I got it, if only you could see my wheels spin
And I thought to myself, “Dang, I have a pretty great daddy”
And with age came defiance
Isn’t that how it always goes?
But somehow a parent always understands and knows
So with every roll of the eye and sarcastic remark
He would never yell or bark, he’d just ignore me
So naturally my pettiness subsided and I was reminded
Just how great it is to call him my daddy
And when a boy breaks my heart
He claims he’ll be there with his gun so basically the boy should prepare to run
Too bad he doesn’t own a gun
But either way I know he’ll be there
To hold me when the dam breaks and the water has nowhere to go but
Down
My
Face
And he’ll say its ok because life isn’t always fair
But honestly who cares
Because like I said my daddy will always be there
He’ll always be there
