Its effects finally began to subside

The entirety of civilization had vanished.

The world was abandoned. And she was gone

What was left of my mind was scattered
Like pollen grains on a windy day.
My thoughts, completely disconnected from reality

I stood atop the highest cliff
The dimly lit water beneath me began to swirl into a ceaseless whirlpool.
The waters began to call... sucking me in

I let my eyes stare at the water for a minute too long
And I fell.
I saw myself collapsing into the freezing body of water at such speed

I had its surface crush every bone of my body
The coldness grabbed my heart in a fixed grip.
I shattered and shrieked

The waves began to aggressively strike me every which way
Breathing became ever more difficult.
I conceded and began to let go of my life

But just then, I saw her face
I jerked my eyes wide open,
And I saw angry winds further in the distance

I hadn't been sure if I was still breathing
But I was more than sure I'd glimpse her foggy eyes.
I thought I'd sight her smile just above the twilight

The angry waters roared at me aggressively
"Hang on. Hang on," they urged.
The coldness inside of me began to seep out

And a familiar warmth began to creep inside of me
Fixing the pieces that were once shattered beyond repair,
And moulding my despair into rage, determination and then finally hope

So I began to swim across
Fighting for my life,
I would swim, survive and I would get there.

The world may have ended along with the apocalypse
But her burning and undying love for me survived.
Love was the only emotion preserved

Some people might still be out there
Holding on to love very tightly.
For if they let go, they will not survive
