"The Truth is a Lie"
Art is a root that is the seed of greatness
our education is ruined and we have become faceless,
We follow the path that is set by others
stripping the world of her colors.
I don't understand why we have become black and white
without colors we have no use for our sight.
Red stands out like the blood of humans,
Our generation has given in to our demons.
We focus on money, fame, and war
this is not a topic that we should ignore.
Let's all stand for what we believe in,
show the true colors, not just of our skin.
If we live in a lie that we teach is the truth,
then we are just slaughtering the minds of the youth.
It's time for the world to unite and change
From shore to shore, just stop the blame.
The truth is a lie that we all teach
so let's focus on art, it's almost in our reach.

We had a project about art classes and how the arts are treated in education (especially in New York) and i wanted to right a poem that exspressed what everyone was feeling. Art has become a victom of the Common Core system and my Drawing & Painting teacher wanted us to make a hexagon for the Hexagon Project. We needed an artist statement, so i wrote the poem "The Truth is a Lie." Art is not just painting, it can be music, literature, and photography. Because so many people have a stigma towards the arts, it has lost it's value in education. Art is not considered a Common Core study and we wanted to show that it is.
