Here's to the Kids Like Us
This is for the kids
who stay up
all night;
they are the ones
who dream the most vividly.
This is for the kids
who were abused;
they have the gentlest touch.
This is for the kids
who mark their own skin
because the pain they inflict
on themselves
isn’t as bad
as what others do to them.
This is for the kids
who have the hardest time
with the simplest things:
getting out of bed,
going to school,
living.
This is for the kids who love
too deeply
and fall too hard too fast.
This is for the strongest kids
who feel so weak.
The kids who push
push
push through
when they only see one way out.
This is for the kids who push others away
because they know
if they let them in,
they’ll get hurt.
Again.
But you know what kids?
I’m proud of you.
And I’m here to tell you:
You ARE loved.
Don’t look to lose yourself in
music
art
writing.
FIND yourself in them.
Because when you find yourself,
and you’re finally happy,
you’ll think, “I am strong. I am brave. I am me.
And I am happy now.”
Here’s to the kids
like us.
