Behind the Mask
The person behind the mask,
has been hiding for a while.
They laugh and pretend for the world putting on a smile.
The person behind the mask,
hides their pain inside.
They joke and play with friends, but alone they cry.
The person behind the mask,
Never lets anyone know.
That they're dying inside slowly, but they never show.
The person behind the mask,
Is the most sly of them all.
They make you believe they are fine, until they trip and fall.
The person behind the mask,
Fools everyone under the sun.
They make people think back and wonder what they could have done.
But the person behind the mask,
Knew all along.
They knew they needed help but they continued to charge on.
The person behind the mask,
has to move their mask aside.
Shed the covers that hide their face and develop pride.
No one is perfect.
Not the person, not me, not you.
Never judge someone by their mask, because one day that could be you.

This piece was inspired by my personal experiences with feeling sad or down on the inside but appearing happy and joyful on the outside. It also has to do with bullying and not judging people by their exterior because you never know what they are going through. I hope people will refrain from bullying or judging people and I hope people confide in a trusted person rather than keeping their feelings bottled up inside.
