Time's Almost Up

Tic Toc
two syllables,
two beats
that my heart meets
with anxiety.
Tic toc
fingers shaking,
raking through the mess
on my head, wishing for less
than to disappear.
tic Toc
people moving,
my feet stay still.
I wish I took the pill
that would stop this from happening.
tic toc
I stay silent
while the voice in my head screams
and, at the same time, no one seems
to notice.
