The Lady in Smoke
Everything about her was wispy from her
skin, draped across her tiny frame,
rooted with veins which were either
blue or green (she couldn't decide which,
buying makeup was a hassle) to the drapes
beneath her eyes which were either
purple or black (the concealer did not
differentiate) to the yellow tint of her nails which
she wishes were still pink (but oh--
what nail polish can do). But her eyes
that watched her last cigarette,
appeared to the passerby as
white, (color contacts would not
be of aid) imprinted by the smoke she lived.
