Tree Lines
I counted the lines on each tree stump
and I thought about every windstorm the leaves have gone through
and how long they survived.
Then I felt the strongest wind blow right over my head
and I realized that every stone that has been thrown at my heart will soon
become the rock that punctures the lungs of this tree.
But 142 rings later,
this tree is still standing and I
knew from then on,
I will continue to
stand.

I don't know where I got the idea from to compare the rings on trees to scars or another kind of permanent marking left on our bodys, but I hope you enjoy.
