Upon the soft pine needles she walks
Lips moving in time to the halogen clock
I heard them reciting their epitaphs
like their vows when they thought I was sleeping

On the lake she sees a duck
Splashing in the rain
Unaware that the blurred stars
Are clouds in the state of weeping

That night she hears somebody crying
And through the stone corridors she walks
Opening the door to the glow-in-the-dark stars
She sings on until she sleeps
Lulled by the pattering rain

There is no shame in crying
When you're stuck out in the rain
Wearily now, they walk
Into the cave where a dragon sleeps
The diamonds gleam like stars

Stars, crumpling like foil
Aluminum alloys, holes in Heaven
When the rain comes and we are asleep
Stars, blooming like ivy
Too many to be significant

Hope is strange, and hope is good
Hope can lead you into the darkest of woods
You rise as the tears are swallowed up by the eyes
The gleam is lost in the stars.

"Too many to be significant"
And so many other jarring images. Terrific
