The Usual
Your feet quickly stumble to the counter
as if you’re a little kid again.
I watch your eyes widen and skim
the shelves behind me with hunger.
Your eyebrows raise with delight,
so many colors and sizes to choose from,
all with different tastes.
You give me a smile revealing
rotting yellow teeth and you nod
over to the left shelf.
“I’ll have the usual”
Your hands shake as you slide the
money across the counter.
I grab a pack of
Pall Mall 100s and hand it to you.
