Terra
“Give me a moment,”
you suggested,
as if I hadn’t given you
eons
I pulled the galaxies
tighter around my shoulders,
watching as you turned our love over
in your heated hands
When your gaze met mine again,
I remembered the moment,
the one before everything else,
when it was just you
and I
and potential
“What am I giving her?”
you asked,
addressing me and the eavesdropping cosmos
The black hole in your chest
gnawed at your self-doubt,
forcing me to envision
a sky without our newborn
Your stare held
as a wandering comet
softly landed
on the bridge of your nose
I tried to form
the right words,
ones I could give unto you
with enough worth
to prevent them from drifting off
“A name” sat perched on my lips,
ready to soar,
but not without its companions:
a legacy
a future
a promise
“Everything.” I whispered
The word burst,
sinking into our sky
The black backdrop of our lives
bloomed with shadow-soaked colors
Atop your hands,
I placed my own,
stroking your thumb with mine,
breathing in the smell of beginning
Just as your gaze gravitated
to the craft of our love,
she woke
