Ode to Caffeine
A rosy glow beholds her
underneath the cafeteria’s fluorescent lighting.
The sleepy fog of minimal consciousness
drifts past, unable to permeate
her intelligent shine.
She is a pint-sized woman;
the word “girl” cannot adequately describe
her serious gaze
as she turns the pages of her book
with her small,
precise hands.
On this morning,
I find myself drawn to her,
for her eyes are
the color of my coffee
when I find its taste
just right.
