Addicts of Chairs
Desks
1-hour classes
Seats bearing our weight
All day every day
When we stand,
Toes tingle like jellyfish
Tentacles
Still, sedentary
What's on Netflix today?
Suddenly
Our legs
Become useful for walking from chair to chair
It's a plague.
As our minds supposedly get brighter,
Our eyes dull and
Our vision narrows to a
Single screen.
Talk about an epidemic.
Yes, we are addicts, and
That is quite sad.
But the saddest thing of all is
We have forgotten to live
Forgotten to stare at the sky
Instead of check our emails
Forgotten to dance
Forgotten to
Slow
Things
Down.
If babies that are born
See mommies and daddies
Addicted to chairs,
Then there is no chance
That they will become
Sober.

I was sitting at my desk and my wifi flickered out. I was too lazy to stand up and get better reception, and it was then that I was struck with how sedentary our generation has become. An epidemic. I haven't met a single person who is sober. I hope that readers will realize that the joys of life aren't experienced in a chair.
