Winter Makes Me Ponder
Winter,
It’s a word
That makes me
Ponder…
Presents underneath
The Christmas tree.
Boxes in hand,
Wide-eyed with joy,
Waiting for the cue
That I can begin
Tearing them open.
Winter,
It’s a word
That makes me
Ponder…
Sitting around
The family table,
Family in hand,
Reminiscing times past,
Crying over memories long gone,
Thankful for the love,
That encompasses me.
Winter,
It’s a word
That makes me
Ponder…
Cross-legged upon my
Coffee-cushioned couch,
Watching the next generation
Open their Christmas presents,
Wide-eyed with happiness,
Waiting for the cue,
To shred open them all.
Winter,
It’s a word
That makes me
Ponder…
Innocence and presents,
Love and family,
Memories and remembering,
Giving and ecstasy.
Best of all,
It’s a word,
That makes me ponder.
