Zeroing in on a Brighter Future
I take my magic telescope
And zoom it in to where it takes me
So much time to explore
All of forever in my hands
I take my magic telescope
It seems so far away
It’s time to fly
To 2144
Into the future
Here I go
Will this world be bleak and dreary?
Or will it be perfect once more?
Almost there
Here I go
100 years from my home
In 2014
I’m finally here
Here I land
My own two feet on the solid ground
Where am I?
Where is the land of beaches and sunshine?
Where are the grasses that grace the land?
All I see is smoke and darkness
What have we done?
I squint my eyes
And narrow in
To try to find the light
In the midst of darkness
Finally I see it
A figure staring back at me
“You must go back
And fix what you’ve done!”
Hope. I have seen it
Something can be done
I can either help or harm
I chose to help and lead us forward
I grip my magic telescope
Faster than I know I am going
Back to my home
“We have to fix this!”
We work as a team
To make this happen
A brighter world
For the next generation
Back to my magic telescope
I see what changes we have caused
I open my eyes to see
The light had defeated the dark
As a team, we can make it happen
Change the course of time and destruction
What shame will we feel?
When our descendants live in the mistakes of our past?
