Get Lost
Get lost with me.
I packed up
two duffels with our toothbrushes
and tanning oil. We burned
holes in our five-two-nines, left them dry,
and paid for two one-
ways to Neverland.
Tick.
In fairy dusted forests
and gator infested swaps,
I rubbed dirt on your
peppered button nose
to match my knees.
You were my lost boy,
and you swore you’d
never call me Tinkerbell.
Tock.
Boy, I was hooked on you.
You snoozed on my shoulder
in rotten leaves, mud, and sticks
until our parents and clocks
tried to reel us back to reality.
Tick.
Sprinting through pine trees,
your nubs of nails dug
into my palm, and we ducked
from canines and men with badges.
You kissed my cheek and pinched
my chin, told me you loved me and,
“to die would be an awfully big adventure.”
and we did.
And I loved you.
Tock.
