Five Hundred Page Fantasy

Tears in her eyes
she's hiding behind that book,
that five hundred page fantasy
isolated in the crowd
earbuds pumping music into her ears
because that's what she needs
to turn the lies into background noise
charcoal eyeliner and choppy bangs
her black nail polish is chipping
the lines are blurring
words changing somehow
Times New Roman
isn't that all?
those blueberry eyes used to shine
but that was a different time
She's front and center
but everybody's blind
