"Ashes"

The wind sweeps up the ashes
and I chase them, hoping to put together the pieces.
The fire dwindles into a tiny spark.
I blow it out.
Darkness in the woods, finally,
when all the campers have left.
A long, thin branch in my hands, I rearrange the logs,
poking, prodding them,
until they lay in a straight line dividing the woods and the campground.
The moon, a silver orb in the sky,
is the only thing shining on this cloudy night.
