Fearing
A blackened room that waits silently-
A visitor
Someone, who it wants to terrify--
Fear of the dark.
The lights go out.
Cold, long fingers-
Gripping my throat
Squeezing my neck
Stopping oxygen--
Fear of those hands.
I feel them.
Thin, gray figure-
Standing in the street
Calling my name
Soft sounds of fabric dragging--
Fear of death.
He appears.
Surrounded by water-
Trying to close off my breath
Shoving me under
Keeping me there--
Fear of drowning.
Going under.
Can't reach the surface.

I wrote this piece because we are all afraid of something. We usually try to forget about it, pretending that the fear does not exist. What happens though when we are face to face with fear and do not know what to do. I hope someone reads this and decides to face their fears before their fears eventually face them.
